Former Rangers defender Alan Hutton has been extremely impressed with the performances of Connor Goldson this season, despite a difficult night against Livingston on Wednesday.
The 26-year-old arrived at Ibrox from Brighton in the summer of 2018, and has been a mainstay in the starting 11 since moving north of the border.
He is very much one of Steven Gerrard’s main men, and has already made more appearances for the Gers than he did in three seasons with Brighton.
Hutton admitted that he didn’t play too well in their Scottish League Cup tie against Livingston, but still believes that since moving to Rangers the centre-back’s performances have got better and better the more he has played.
Speaking to Football Insider, the former Scotland international right-back said: “He’s definitely grown into it. He’s started producing really good performances. He struggled in the cup game, don’t get me wrong, but he’s done very well.
“Chipped in with a few goals but also he’s big, powerful, commanding, he’s decent with the ball. He’s literally everything you want from a centre-half up there.”
It is hard to disagree with Hutton on this one. As already mentioned Goldson has been an ever-present in the starting 11 for Rangers since joining the club and he has helped them to nine clean sheets in the Scottish Premiership and Europa League already this term.
Added to that, he has also chipped in with three goals and an assist in all competitions too. He only scored four times in the entire of the of the 2018/19 campaign, so he is well on the way to bettering his tally this season.
In short, Goldson has certainly become a key player for Rangers. If they are to end Celtic’s streak of winning the Scottish Premiership, they will need him to continue performing.Like what the TT have on offer? Sign up for more notifications!
