Rangers need a big summer if they’re to challenge Celtic for the Scottish Premiership title next season. With that in mind, they should prioritise quality over quantity though and chairman Dave King seems to finally have realised that.
Obviously, Alfredo Morelos has been impressive this season, netting 30 times in all competitions and 17 times in the league. So, all he needs now is a strike partner to bring the same amount of goals to the table and Rangers would be right up there with their rivals.
Football Insider have claimed chairman Dave King has given the green light to backing Steven Gerrard with a top-quality star on Premier League wages. Clearly, that’ll be music to Gerrard’s ears because he’s clearly lacking that extra quality up top.
The club could choose to spread the cash across the team and buy a bunch of average players to deepen their squad, but that’s not what’s needed at Ibrox. They need to upgrade the starting 11 and the most important part of that is the striker.
If they sign a centre-forward capable of scoring over 20 goals in a season to go alongside Morelos then they’ll win games by outscoring the opposition, never mind worrying about how many goals they concede. This is the style Rangers fans want to see.
Whoever the player is, he’ll be game-changing for the Light Blues and all the money would be worth it when they lift that first Scottish Premiership since returning to the top flight. The money appears to be available, Gerrard now needs to spend it wisely.
