Borna Barisic has revealed his plans are to remain with Rangers beyond the transfer window and is fully committed to the task at hand for the Ibrox outfit.
The Croatia international defender’s future has become a topic for debate over the last few weeks, but the 26-year-old has admitted that his sole focus is on playing for the Light Blues.
“I don’t know what people talk about but I only know I am fully focused on Rangers. I am a Rangers player and that is it,” he was quoted as saying by the Daily Record.
As mentioned, Barisic’s future has been something of a discussion point in recent weeks, as Soccer Link reported that he was prepared to listen to offers from other clubs, whilst Football Insider had claimed that the 26-year-old had won over Steven Gerrard with his attitude and performances during pre-season.
The defender has been in-and-out of the team this season (Transfermarkt) – as he was in the previous campaign as well – although came back into the first-team with a bang as he scored a marvellous free-kick against St. Mirren at the weekend.
He provided six assists in his 23 appearances for the Light Blues in an injury-hit campaign last term – one that infuriated his manager at times – but has started this season well with two assists in the Europa League match against Gibraltarian outfit St Joseph’s.
Record Sport’s Gavin Berry had felt prior to the game against St. Mirren that Barisic had ‘blown his chances’ of playing for Rangers again as his place in the team seemed to be behind the likes of Jon Flanagan and Andy Halliday. However, those thoughts may have been thrown out of the water now.
Although Barisic’s comments should only be taken with a pinch of salt, perhaps, his goal celebration at the weekend will help to further highlight his dedication to being a Rangers player. The Croatian jumped into the crowd to celebrate with the travelling fans on the day and appeared to enjoy the occasion – something that might be a little too hard to fake if he was thinking about leaving in the next few days.
Should he get more time at Ibrox, then maybe those in Glasgow associated with the club will finally be rewarded and see exactly why they splashed out £2.2m on him 12 months or so ago (Sky Sports).
