According to The Daily Record, Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos is subject of an £8m bid from Ligue 1 outfit Nice.
The Nice manager Patrick Vieira eyes the Colombian as a replacement to Mario Balotelli, who could be on his way out of the club this January.
The 22-year-old has 12 Scottish Premiership goals this season in 19 appearances, and has subsequently garnered attention from the Ligue 1 outfit. The Gers bought the striker from Finnish outfit HJK Helsinki in 2017 for just over £1m, meaning they will make a significant profit on the sale of Morelos, however, it is much more important that he stays at Ibrox.
It may be inevitable that the striker will leave at some point, but it is imperative that he at least remains until the end of the season. With Jermain Defoe arriving on loan this month, Rangers have the potential of a lethal strike partnership. The 36-year-old England international is a natural goal scorer, and could complement Morelos immensely. The Colombian has come under criticism in the past of spurning a lot of chances; under the tutelage of Defoe, he could really develop his game.
With Rangers sitting in second place of the Scottish Premiership, level on points with leaders and bitter rivals Celtic, they will not want their squad to be weakened in any way. The arrival of Defoe will only be a success, therefore, should Morelos stay, at least until the end of the season. Rangers are breathing down Celtic’s neck, and would be devastated to lose a player like Morelos.
