Steven Gerrard is thought to still be on the hunt for new additions this summer as he continues to reshape his Rangers side.
Despite having already made a number of changes to his squad since he was appointed as the new manager, it appears that he has identified his latest target, having seen him in action against the Light Blues recently.
According to a report by The Daily Record, Rangers are thought to be closing in on a deal for NK Osijek’s Borna Barisic worth around £2.2million. The full-back impressed Gerrard during their Europa League meetings and he now sees him as the ideal man to fill his need for a left sided defender.
The new Ibrox chief watched his side be held to a 1-1 draw with Aberdeen on Sunday in their opening Scottish Premiership fixture.
The Light Blues saw Alfredo Morelos sent off inside the opening 15 minutes in controversial fashion before James Tavernier dispatched a penalty. Gerrard would have felt his side had done enough for the three points, however, the Dons equalised with just minutes to go.
Barisic could become an excellent addition for Rangers this summer as they look to rebuild a defence that has struggled in recent memory.
Gerrard has already added a number of names to the backline including compatriot Nikola Katic, which appears to have made it stronger already, however, he has a need for another left sided defender.
A deal looks mighty close now as the 25-year-old, who made the initial 32-man squad for Croatia’s World Cup campaign, as he was left out of Osijek’s 3-2 victory against Rudes at the weekend.
