Rangers struggled to keep possession and looked helpless at times yesterday against Celtic as they suffered a 1-0 defeat at Parkhead.
The Bluenoses will be desperate to pick themselves up after the international break, with their eyes still set on securing the Scottish Premiership title. And, their hopes of securing silverware have just been boosted, as according to the Daily Record, Rangers are on the verge of signing free agent Gareth McAuley.
Rangers are on the verge of signing former West Brom stalwart Gareth McAuley.
Interestingly, Steven Gerrard revealed that his side’s summer transfer business isn’t over yet after yesterday’s defeat to Celtic at Parkhead.
And, the Rangers boss stated that he expects to complete a deal for the 38-year-old “in the coming days”.
Gareth McAuley is a very experienced customer that still has a lot to give at the age of 38, so Gerrard will be pleased to get him on board to help with their title push.
The Bluenoses currently have Nikola Katic and Connor Goldson as their first choice central defensive pairing, but both men are on the younger side and lacked experience against Celtic in the Old Firm clash.
Indeed, the former West Bromwich Albion defender will be a real leader at the heart of the defence and could save Rangers a lot of points this season once it’s officially over the line.
