Steven Gerrard is going to have to make additions to his Rangers side in the summer if they are to be in a position to challenge for the title.
Things have certainly improved at Ibrox this season, however, Bluenoses cannot help but feel a sense of disappointment after what looked to be a promising start to life under the rookie manager.
Gerrard has been relatively successful with his acquisitions in the two previous transfer windows he has had at the helm, and it appears he could be about to make another potentially solid deal in the upcoming window.
What’s the News?
According to a report by Football Insider, Rangers are thought to be close to securing a deal for Steven Davis.
The Southampton midfielder is currently on loan at the Light Blues this season, however, his contract at the Premier League outfit is set to expire in the summer.
It is claimed in the report that all parties are confident that an agreement can be reached about a permanent switch.
It makes complete sense for Rangers to tie Davis done to a permanent deal this summer as he has become an instrumental figure in his second spell with the club.
The veteran Northern Ireland international has the knowledge and experience of what it takes to win silverware at Ibrox, and after a rather disappointing campaign, that could prove to be extremely valuable for Gerrard in his second season as manager.
The 34-year-old has started to come into his own in recent weeks as he has put in a number of solid performances in the middle of the park, whilst he appears to have provided the Light Blues with a solution to a problem they have had, namely a lack of depth and experience.
Scott Arfield has attracted plenty of unwanted interest and Lassana Coulibaly looks likely to head back to Angers in the summer once his loan deal comes to an end after a poor second half of the season, so keeping Davis at Ibrox might just be a sensible thing for Rangers to do.
Rangers fans, would signing Davis permanently be a good piece of business for the club? Join in with the discussion below by sharing your thoughts with us.
