Rangers consider Rolando Aarons loan switch

Rangers are continuing to look for new additions this summer and it appears that Steven Gerrard has identified a Premier League misfit as his latest target.

According to a report by The Daily Mirror, Newcastle United’s Rolando Aarons is the latest man to have been linked with a move to Ibrox.

Should the 22-year-old be on Gerrard’s list, he will need to act quickly, with the likes of Hull City and Greek outfit AEK Athens also thought to be interested in signing him.

It is understood that the winger will be allowed to leave St. James’ Park on a temporary deal, as he did last season, with Rafa Benitez having a number of options already available to him.

The Light Blues could be in the market for a winger this summer after they lost Josh Windass to Wigan Athletic earlier this month, whilst also seeing Jamie Murphy receive a serious injury.

The wideman picked up a cruciate injury at Kilmarnock last week and is now expected to miss the rest of the season.

The Verdict:

Aarons has struggled to make an impact at Newcastle and another loan move would do the Jamaica-born former England Under-20 a world of good.

The winger spent the first half of last season on loan at Hellas Verona in Italy and certainly has a number of options to choose from this summer.

Rangers could look to add the 22-year-old this summer as possible cover, although they will need to compete with AEK and Hull for him.
