Steven Gerrard must add firepower to his Rangers side if they are to challenge for domestic titles next season. Alfredo Morelos has continued to carry the burden on his shoulders over the course of the current campaign, however, this isn’t something that the Gers can rely on long-term.
Gerrard may have made a name for himself as a player in the past and he will be looking to do so as a manager, which is something that can be achieved with the calibre of acquisitions one makes during their tenure at certain clubs.
However, his latest rumoured target might just be one too big for the Ibrox outfit to be able to pull off.
What’s the News?
According to a report by The Herald Scotland, Rangers are plotting an ambitious loan swoop for Watford’s Andre Gray this summer.
The Watford forward has been a key figure for the Premier League side this season and has been in fine form for Javi Gracia’s side.
Chasing a player like Gray is definitely a sign of ambitious Gerrard and Rangers are trying to be, however, whether he is a realistic target is something that has to be rather questionable.
There is no doubt that the forward could be the ideal man to help spearhead their attack alongside the likes of Jermain Defoe, or even Alfredo Morelos if they manage to keep him at Ibrox beyond the summer.
The 27-year-old has netted seven goals in England’s top-flight and provided he is offered plenty of service from the wingers and midfielders, he could easily eclipse that figure in the Scottish Premiership.
However, as mentioned, is he a realistic target for Rangers and would he be someone that the club would have any real chance of getting? It is highly doubtable.
Whether Watford are prepared to let a player of his quality leave remains to be seen as there do not appear to be any signs they would be, whilst it would not be surprising if he were given more attractive offers in the summer if the Hornets did make him available for a switch.
This rumour could be an extremely interesting one to keep an eye on, although it would not be recommended for those at Rangers to hold their breath over it.
