Rangers will be heading into the winter break in a jubilant mood after securing a 1-0 victory over Old Firm rivals Celtic last weekend.
The win meant Steven Gerrard’s side went level at the top of the Scottish Premiership table, however, it appears the Light Blues are still keen on adding bodies to their squad in the winter.
However, there are concerns about whether contract demands can be met for the Northern Ireland international, who is thought to be prepared to take a wage cut to make a return viable.
It is believed Rangers could still face trouble and may have to offload the likes of Eduardo Herrera and Carlos Pena from their books in order to have the financial power for an agreement to be made.
With Davis willing to reduce his wage demands and Southampton’s willingness to let him leave, things would have appeared to be going in Rangers’ favour.
However, with concerns that they still may not be able to meet the veteran midfielder’s requirements, it is a deal that could be potentially difficult for the Light Blues to complete.
With both Herrera and Pena looking unlikely to leave any time soon, it remains to be seen if the 33-year-old will make a return to Ibrox.
