Rangers are going to have to add firepower to their squad in the summer if they are to challenge for the Scottish Premiership title.
Alfredo Morelos has continued to be in fine form in front of goal this season, however, the Light Blues’ other options have struggled to make an impact.
And, with those troubles in front of goal, it appears Steven Gerrard’s side have identified a striker to try and help them out.
What’s the News?
According to a report by the Daily Express, Rangers are thought to be eyeing up a move for Mirko Maric this summer.
The Croatia international, who currently plays for NK Osijek, is believed to be on the radar of Mark Allen as he looks to bring a centre-forward to Ibrox to help take the burden off of Morelos.
It is certainly wise for Rangers to head into the upcoming transfer market with a striker on their list of targets and Maric could be a perfect acquisition for the Light Blues to try and bring to Ibrox.
Gerrard’s side have already had some success when it comes to picking up talent from Croatia, with the likes of Nikola Katic making a solid impression, although Borna Barisic and Eros Grezda have both been troubled with injuries, who could also provide the Gers with some valuable information as they all came from Osijek.
Maric is the top goalscorer in his homeland at the moment with 16 goals and Allen will likely have been impressed with what the forward has been able to achieve so far, as they have kept tabs on him since coming up against the European outfit in the qualifying stages of the Europa League.
However, the quality of football in Croatia’s top-flight is not as good as that of the play in the Scottish Premiership and whether the 23-year-old would be able to adapt could be a rather big risk as some of Rangers’ other strikers are currently struggling in front of goal, especially if he is going to cost them around £3million.
Kyle Lafferty has failed to live up to any expectations this season with his performances, whilst Morelos’ future at Rangers is far from certain as links continue to speculate about where the Colombian could be playing his football next season.
Rangers fans, what do you think of Maric? Do you think he can be a success or would you be concerned he could be an expensive risk? Join in with the discussion below by sharing your thoughts with us.
