Rangers fans on Twitter can’t understand why Defoe isn’t on penalties

A lot of Rangers fans were questioning their side yesterday when they drew 0-0 at Rugby Park against Kilmarnock. The Gers had a golden opportunity after just 15 minutes to take the lead when James Tavernier stepped up for a penalty. However, his effort was saved from 12 yards, and the fans were questioning why Jermain Defoe didn’t take it.

This season has already seen James Tavernier score a whopping 11 penalties for the club. The 28-year-old right-back has made scoring from 12 yards his own this season, however, after he missed one of the three he took against St Mirren last weekend before missing another one today, the fans want to see the defender switched off of penalties for the veteran striker Jermain Defoe.

Whilst Tavernier has scored 11 this season, Defoe has been a penalty pro in his career, scoring 20 in his career so far. The last time that the 36-year-old missed a spot-kick was in October 2014, so the chances are his confidence from 12-yards is sky high, and the Bluenoses would love to see their on-loan striker take over the responsibility from Tavernier sooner rather than later.

The Gers love the idea of Defoe taking their penalties from now on and would to see him usurp James Tavernier as their spot-kick specialist.
