Alfredo Morelos received his first-ever call-up to his country’s senior national team today and the 22-year-old is fully deserving of that place after his hard graft in the early stages of the season for Steven Gerrard’s side. Now, though, he’ll have to carry that form over to international football as he prepares to face Venezuela and Argentina.

Morelos’ call-up means he’ll be playing alongside the likes of Radamel Falcao, Davinson Sanchez and David Ospina, who all ply their trade in some of the best leagues in the world. The determined young striker will be desperate to leave a good impression during his time with the senior national team, despite the fact he’ll probably be behind Falcao, Carlos Bacca and Luis Muriel in the pecking order up front.
If he can show what he’s made of and bag himself a goal or two in the fixtures then it’s likely he’ll get picked again and continue to see his stock rise. Stevie G has helped the youngster refind his form and look like a real star at Ibrox. In his 11 appearances this season he’s already bagged himself six goals and two assists, including a well-taken hat-trick away at Kilmarnock, and the season is still very young.

The Gers are loving seeing their young frontman reap the rewards from his superb form and will be keen for him to continue impressing for both club and country this season.
