Rangers fans on Twitter have been congratulating their new full-back, Borna Barisic as he’s been named in Croatia’s first 23-man squad since the World Cup. The 25-year-old left-back has impressed since moving to Glasgow and the fans will be expecting him to play for his country more often if he can keep up his Ibrox form.

The fact that Barisic has been included in the squad is a testament to the way that Steven Gerrard has been coaching the defender. It wasn’t long ago that Gerrard’s Rangers beat Barisic’s Osijek over two legs in their Europa League second round qualifier and following the 180 minutes against the Croatian, Gerrard forked out to sign the left-back. The decision to do that so far looks to have been a good one.
Barisic scored his first goal for Rangers on Sunday, albeit an own-goal, and he’ll be hoping his next strike can end up in the right net. Despite his own-goal, which was unfortunate in itself, the 25-year-old has shown that he’s more than capable of performing at the level that Rangers play at and he’s waltzed into the starting lineup, it remains to be seen whether he’ll keep that place for the rest of the season as rotation will be factor when the fixtures start to build up.
