Rangers: Fans slam Scott Arfield for his performance against St Mirren on Twitter

Rangers continued their fine start to the Scottish Premiership season as they recorded a 1-0 victory against St. Mirren on Sunday afternoon, however fans were far from happy with the performance of Scott Arfield at the Paisley 2021 Stadium.

The victory meant Steven Gerrard’s side kept their 100% record going in Scotland’s top-flight in a match that could have been considered a potential banana skin following a long European trip to Poland earlier in the week.

The Gers managed to pick up the three points from a magnificent free-kick by Borna Barisic but, in truth, the Light Blues had a number of chances to see off their opponents before the Croatia international’s moment of magic.

Rangers had plenty of the ball and dominated possession and could have been ahead inside the first four minutes when Jermain Defoe spurned an early opportunity.

Scott Arfield, who appeared to be playing as a second striker for much of the first half (Rangers News), was one individual that did not appear to put in the best of performances on the day and left many on Twitter questioning his display.

In their player ratings, Rangers News gave the Canada international captain a seven out of ten, stating: “Effectively played as a second striker for long spells and wasn’t as effective as he usually is. Unlucky to be denied by the St. Mirren keeper’s face in the first half.”

Football Scotland took no prisoners with their rating of the 30-year-old as they gave him a four and wrote: “Had a header saved looked from close-range that could have put Rangers in front. Looked a yard off the pace to be honest. Poor performance by his standards.”

Indeed, fans appeared to be disappointed with what they witnessed from Arfield and took to Twitter to vent their frustrations.

Here are just some of their reactions…
