Rangers fans took to Twitter to laud sublime Tavernier after Livingston thrashing

After being on the wrong end of plenty of fan frustration in the week following the Gers’ 2-1 loss against Kilmarnock, James Tavernier got the other side of it for his cracking performance away at Livingston yesterday. The 28-year-old right-back shone from the first minute to last during the win and rightly got praise aplenty from the travelling fans.

The Gers have it out for Tavernier a lot more often than they should. Whilst the defender doesn’t always look like the leader that they demand their captain is when things are going badly on the pitch, they can’t underestimate his influence when things are going well or when he needs to step up, and the fact that the defender has contributed nine goals and 14 assists this season says a lot of his influence.

Tavernier may have failed to add to his goal or assist tallies yesterday, yet his performance was still one to admire. The Englishman was classy down the right flank and once again showed how effective he can be when he links up with Daniel Candeias as they brushed by Livingston with ease at Almondvale, putting to bed their poor 1-1 draw against Gary Holt’s side from earlier in the season.

The Gers were in awe of Tavernier and will hope he can make yesterday’s performance his benchmark going forward.
