Rangers are ready to make an offer for Liverpool attacker Ryan Kent, according to a report by Football Insider.
The Gers are thought to be prepared to table a bid of £6m to bring the winger back to Ibrox, with the deal thought to be an initial season-long loan with the view to making in permanent next summer.
Kent is believed to be keen on making a return to Glasgow after becoming frustrated with the Premier League outfit’s stance (Daily Record) and Rangers are keen to use that news as encouragement in their pursuit of the 22-year-old before the Scottish transfer window slams shut.
However, it is also claimed that Liverpool are holding out for a transfer fee of around £10m and want to see him leave permanently and not on a temporary deal.
Rangers do not appear to have given up on Kent this summer and it appears they are going to try and push the boat out in their pursuit for the 22-year-old winger. Steven Gerrard recently admitted that they had tried their luck once again earlier in the month when he revealed he had spoken to Michael Edwards about a possible loan deal but saw it flatly rejected.
“I don’t think it is a secret we tried to get Ryan Kent to return,” Gerrard said, as quoted by the Daily Record.
“Liverpool knew how much we wanted the player to come back. But I was told a week ago by Jurgen Klopp that he wouldn’t be going out on loan, so I respect that decision.
“We checked again a couple of days ago. I spoke to the technical director Michael Edwards. He made it very clear, again, that it wouldn’t be happening so we had to move in a different direction.”
However, it appears they have gone back to the drawing board to try and convince Liverpool to let him go, which is hardly surprising.
Kent was an exceptional talent for Rangers last season and proved to be a real driving force for Gerrard’s side as the campaign went on so it is hardly a surprise that the Ibrox outfit looked to try their luck once again.
The 22-year-old went on to make 43 appearances for the Light Blues across all competitions, netting six goals and providing a further nine assists (Transfermarkt). His performances were also recognised at the highest level of the game within Scotland as well at the end of the season as he was named the Scottish Young Player of the Year for the 2018/19 campaign.
However, whether he would fit straight back into the Gers’ first-team is something that could be debatable, as Gerrard brought in the likes of Greg Stewart, Sheyi Ojo, Jordan Jones and Jake Hastie to strengthen his side, meaning Kent could have his work cut out for him at Ibrox this time around.
With over a week to go before the Scottish transfer window closes, it is hardly a shock to see another story emerge regarding Kent and a possible switch to Rangers once again.
However, whether the Light Blues will be able to convince the Premier League outfit to let him go for a transfer fee of £6m next summer after a season-long loan remains to be seen.
Kent might be pushing for a move back to Ibrox (Daily Record), but if Liverpool are not happy with what has been offered, then making that switch happen could continue to prove extremely difficult.
