Rangers given green light to sign Steven Davis

Rangers could look to bring a number of additions to the club in the winter transfer window, although it is unlikely to be as busy as the summer.

Steven Gerrard made a number of signings when he took over at the Ibrox outfit and has seen a number of his players put in some impressive performances for the Light Blues.

However, it is understood that the manager is still keen to bolster certain areas of his squad in the winter and may have just been given a huge boost in landing one of his rumoured targets.

According to a report by The Scottish Sun, Southampton have given Rangers the green light to swoop for Steven Davis and bring him back to Glasgow.

It is understood that Ralph Hasenhuttl will allow the Northern Ireland midfielder to leave the club should an offer come in for him.

It is understood that the Saints could also allow the veteran to leave on a free transfer, which could prove to be a great bit of business for the club.

The Verdict:

Davis is a hugely experienced player and is one that knows what it means to play for Rangers, which could help the Scottish Premiership side in the future.

The 105-international capped star is thought to be the man to provide Gerrard with some of the creativity that he feels his squad is currently lacking.

It remains to be seen if Davis will make his return to Glasgow in the winter window or if they will sign him on a pre-contract, however, a move back to Ibrox certainly appears to be on the cards for the 33-year-old.
