Graham Dorrans has been told by Rangers to find a new club this summer, according to a report by The Scottish Sun.
They claim the Light Blues would be open to letting him leave on either a temporary or permanent basis as Steven Gerrard is already overloaded with options in the centre of midfield.
The 32-year-old is entering the final year of his contract following his 2017 arrival from Norwich City.
Dorrans’ time at Ibrox can only be considered as nothing short of a nightmare for the midfielder. The experienced footballer has had to spend a hefty amount of time on the sidelines and in the treatment room over the past two years.
The Scotland international has missed a mammoth 83 games in the last two years (Transfermarkt) and made just three appearances totalling 88 minutes last season for Gerrard’s side.
With the likes of Steven Davis, Scott Arfield, Ryan Jack, Glen Kamara, Joe Aribo and Greg Docherty all available to choose from, Dorrans’ place will more-than-likely have fallen well down the pecking order, whilst his time at Ibrox was, perhaps, thrown into doubt at the beginning of pre-season.
The 32-year-old was omitted from Rangers’ training camp of Portugal in June, which led to reports from the Daily Record suggesting that he was on borrowed time at the club.
With the Light Blues allegedly open to any type of transfer for the player, that would seemingly provide further evidence that Gerrard does not see Dorrans in his long-term plans and that they are only concerned with getting him off the books this summer by whatever means necessary.
It should not come as a surprise to hear that Dorrans is available to leave the club this summer as he has hardly had the impact that Rangers would have initially hoped and/or expected of him when he first joined them.
Since arriving in 2017, the Scotland international has made just 23 appearances for the Ibrox outfit, providing them with five goals and four assists (Transfermarkt) – a record that is not actually that bad.
However, his fitness is a real area of concern and whether another club will be prepared to give him a way out of Rangers this summer remains to be seen.
