Rangers’ hopes of silverware may be over for another year, however, things have been rather encouraging for Steven Gerrard at Ibrox this season.
If they are to improve next year, additions are going to need to be made and it appears the club have identified one man as their main target in the upcoming transfer window.
What’s the News?
The Daily Record are claiming that Rangers are interested in signing John Souttar in the summer and Mark Allen has identified him as their main transfer priority.
It has been claimed the Light Blues watched the defender in action for Heart of Midlothian on Saturday and will likely have been impressed with what they saw from the Scotland international.
The 22-year-old scored in their 3-0 win against Inverness CT in the Scottish Cup to book their place in the final.
With Joe Worrall expected to return to Nottingham Forest once his loan at Rangers expires, it is hardly a surprise to hear that Allen and Gerrard are looking at alternative options.
Connor Goldson and Nikola Katic are going to need competition in the central areas of defence and Souttar could be an excellent addition at Ibrox next season.
Souttar is an exciting prospect that appears to have a rather bright future ahead of him, having helped Hearts to a Scottish Cup final and has recently started to begin to represent Scotland at the international level.
Despite only being 22-years-old, the defender already has exceptional tackling ability, whilst he is strong and is a commanding figure in the air, which could be welcomed at the Light Blues next season.
Having already helped Hearts to some success, he could prove to become a real quality addition for Gerrard and Allen.
Rangers fans, do you think Souttar could be an instant hit at Ibrox if he were to sign with the club? Join in with the discussion below by sharing your thoughts with us.
