Jackie McNamara is of the opinion that the Rangers board will be unhappy and frustrated with Vaclav Hladky after appearing to make a potential switch to Ibrox in the summer public knowledge, per Football Insider.
According to a report by The Scottish Sun, the 28-year-old confirmed that the Glaswegian giants are interested in securing his services once his contract at St. Mirren expires at the end of the current campaign.
“Rangers are interested in me. Some negotiations are under way,” he has been quoted as saying, despite admitting his ultimate aim is to play in the Premier League.
“This will be my last season with St Mirren. Negotiations took place about a new contract. But we have agreed that my football goals are a little higher than here. There is still time to sort things out. But by January I would like to know where I will be playing next season, so I can fully focus on keeping St Mirren in the league. I have felt great at this club from the first day. I’m very happy here for now.”
However, McNamara believes the hierarchy at Rangers will not have been happy with Hladky’s comments about the club wanting to sign him and has admitted he found it very strange.
Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “Yeah, they would have been. It’s a very strange one. I don’t get it, it’s really strange.”
Indeed, it would not be surprising if the Rangers board were furious with his comments and desire to reveal them publicly as it could end up jeopardising their chances in signing him, or worse, alienate the players they already have at the club.
With Allan McGregor edging ever closer to his forties, it would not have been a surprise that Steven Gerrard was looking to add a new shot-stopper to his ranks as cover, whilst Wes Foderingham also appears to be out of favour and is expected to leave the club at the end of his contract this summer.
Whilst McGregor is likely to remain Gerrard’s number one for the foreseeable future after some impressive performances and being the undisputed man between the sticks for the Gers following his return to Ibrox, the Light Blues do have the likes of Foderingham, Andy Firth and loaned-out duo Robbie McCrorie and Jak Alnwick on the books still (TransferMarkt).
However, the 28-year-old Czech appears as though he could be an excellent option for the Gers to bring in though, as he has been rather impressive for St. Mirren this season. Prior to their encounter with Heart of Midlothian on Saturday afternoon, he had managed to keep seven clean sheets in his 15 matches across all competitions (TransferMarkt).
Players don’t usually make remarks about who want them or who they are potentially talking to unless they are fairly certain, however it would appear Hladky has gone against the wind with this one, should the Rangers board not be too angered by his pubic reveal.
