Joe Dodoo is set to end his time at Rangers this summer, according to a report by Football Ghana.
The media outlet claim they have received information that the 24-year-old is set to leave the Ibrox outfit as he searches for regular football – although they made the rather glaring mistake of saying he is set to leave Celtic in their headline.
They also suggested that the former England Under-18 international was tipped to play a role for Steven Gerrard this season, however he is yet to have made a single appearance for the club so far in the current campaign making that suggestion hardly look credible.
Dodoo joined Rangers on a four-year deal back in 2016 when he joined from Leicester City (BBC), however he has hardly had the opportunities or made the impact that he surely would have liked during his time in Glasgow.
The 24-year-old has made just 27 appearances for the Light Blues over the last three years, scoring five goals and providing a further three assists (Transfermarkt).
Since being at Ibrox, he has had two temporary spells in English football with Charlton Athletic and spent the last 12 months on loan at Blackpool where he almost made as many appearances for the Tangerines as he has for the Bears – 25 matches with a return of six goals and four assists and was described as ‘phenomenal’ by Terry McPhillips (talkSPORT).
The idea that he could have played a key role for Gerrard this season appears to have been a little optimistic as well considering the additions the manager has made this summer to his wing department.
Although a versatile attacker, Dodoo appears to predominately operate as a winger on the left-hand side of the pitch but with the likes of Jamie Murphy, Jordan Jones, Brandon Barker and Jake Hastie also available to play on the left, it would have been difficult to see 24-year-old get his chance.
It is hardly a surprise to hear that Dodoo could be on his way out of Ibrox this summer as it would be rather difficult to see him have a future at Rangers.
The Light Blues have significantly upgraded their options on the left side of the attack and given that he was sent out on loan in Gerrard’s first season in charge and has hardly had the number of opportunities he would have liked before the Liverpool legend’s arrival, perhaps it would be best for the 24-year-old to play his football elsewhere.
