Steven Gerrard could be about to make another huge player decision at Rangers this January.
According to a report by Mexican outlet Vanguardia, The Light Blues are seeking to terminate Carlos Pena’s contract with the club.
Rangers are said to no longer want the player on their books and are not prepared to pay the remainder of his contract.
The midfielder arrived at Ibrox in the summer of 2017 for a fee reported to be £2.7million under Pedro Caixinha, per Transfermarkt.
However, many were left disappointed with the performances the Mexico international put in during his time in Scotland and was quickly sent out on loan.
Pena returned to his homeland with temporary spells at Cruz Azul and Necaxa, however, he has failed to make an impact wherever he has gone and has since returned to Scotland.
Pena’s time at Rangers has been a huge flop and it comes as no real surprise that the club want to terminate his deal.
The 28-year-old clearly has no future at the club and it makes sense for them to try and get one of their biggest-earners off their wage bill as soon as possible.
The midfielder arrived with some big expectations, however, he only featured 12 times for the Light Blues.
