Rangers fans in the Transfer Tavern would be forgiven for getting carried away following the improvements Steven Gerrard has made since arriving at Ibrox.
The new Light Blues manager has been busy in the transfer market signing players he feels would help improve and strength his new side as they look to compete for the Scottish Premiership title against Old Firm rivals Celtic.
It does not appear to be just the locals that are getting excited with what the former England international has been able to do in such a short time, with Derek Johnstone writing in the Glasgow Evening Times that he believes next year could be their year.
The Gers legend believes that the ex-Liverpool star has turned the squad right around with his acquisitions this summer and feels he has brought the correct types of players the club needs to improve.
“I believe this to be the best Rangers squad in a decade – you read that right – and at long last there are some leaders on the pitch, so badly missing, and players who can put in a proper tackle,” he wrote in his column for the newspaper.
“Rangers have a chance next season. I now honestly believe that. Recruitment has been good and I’m told the players have bought into what their new manager is preaching.”
The Rangers fans in the Tavern will be delighted with the comments that Johnstone has made and will hope that Gerrard can prove him correct. The residents will be hoping they do not get carried away with all the new additions, however, it does appear that times for the Ibrox crowd could be about to change for the better.
