Rangers are thought to be closing in on the signature of Ryan Kent, according to a report by the Glasgow Evening Times.
It has been claimed that the Scottish Premiership giants are thought to have agreed a deal worth around £7m.
Steven Gerrard had been playing down their chances of bringing the winger back to Ibrox after an exceptional campaign with them last season.
There have been a number of different stories over the summer regarding Rangers’ interest in bringing Kent back to Ibrox, with the Express reporting in the last couple of days that Gerrard had all but given up in his pursuit.
However, with the deadline in Scotland not until midnight on Monday, it appears the Light Blues have been able to find a breakthrough and a deal should not be too difficult to conclude. The 22-year-old is believed to have had his heart set on returning to the Glasgow outfit, which should help smooth the whole transfer process (Sky Sports).
Indeed, it is hardly a surprise that the Light Blues are keen to see him return, whilst it is not particularly shocking that the 22-year-old would like to make a swift return either as, perhaps, he played the best football of his career for the Bears.
Kent went on to make 43 appearances for Rangers across all competitions, netting six goals and providing a further nine assists (Transfermarkt). His performances were also recognised at the highest level of the game within Scotland as well at the end of the season as he was named the Scottish Young Player of the Year for the 2018/19 campaign.
This would appear to be a deal that will be all but guaranteed to be completed before the deadline is reached and Rangers will surely be delighted to see it get over the line.
As mentioned, Kent was nothing but sublime for the Ibrox outfit last season and having a player back available to Gerrard for the current campaign can only be considered a positive thing for the Bears.
