Rangers are said to still be in discussions with Claudio Marchisio about a potential switch to Ibrox, according to a report by RMC Sport.
The former Juventus star is understood to have been in talks with AS Monaco about a move after seeing his contract with Zenit St. Petersburg expire.
However, Rangers and Brazilian outfit Flamengo are believed to be interested in signing the former Italy international on a free transfer.
As with plenty of transfers in the past, it appears as though there are some rather conflicting stories that are being reported within the media.
Despite the French media outlet continuing to claim that Rangers are a possible destination for Marchisio, reliable Italian journalist Nicolo Schira had revealed that the midfielder had turned down the possibility of heading to Ibrox.
However, there is no doubt that a player of the 33-year-old’s calibre and quality would be a huge coup for the Light Blues.
He is a hugely experienced and highly decorated midfielder that won a number of accolades during his time at Juventus, which included seven Serie A titles and two Champions League runners-up medals (Transfermarkt).
Throughout his career, Marchisio has played 435 matches across all competitions, scoring 39 goals and providing 44 assists (Transfermarkt) and, perhaps, could provide the Gers with the added experience to help Steven Gerrard acquire some silverware.
As mentioned, Marchisio has bundles of experience to offer and has a winning mentality that Rangers could, perhaps, benefit by having in the squad.
As long as the midfielder does not have a club, it would appear the Light Blues are in the race for his signature, despite the conflicting reports that have since emerged regarding where he could be about to play his football.
Gerrard can already call upon the likes of Andy King, Scott Arfield, Steven Davis, Ryan Jack and Joe Aribo fighting for their place in the centre of midfield, but having someone with the quality of Marchisio available to call upon could work wonders for the Bears.
