With the football calendar starting to come to an end, Steven Gerrard must be looking ahead to the upcoming transfer window to continue his efforts in improving Rangers.
He has made a number of additions since being at the helm of the Ibrox outfit already, however, the defence is still an area that can be further improved.
And, if a recent report is to be trusted, it would seem that one experienced international could be on his radar.
What’s the News?
According to a report by L’Equipe, Gerrard was spotted at a restaurant in Rennes on Thursday afternoon leading to speculation that he is interested in signing Mexer.
The Mozambique international defender has been impressive for Rennes this season and is available on a free transfer as his contract with the Ligue 1 outfit expires in the summer.
Heading to Rennes from Glasgow just for lunch does not seem to be a viable option, so there must be some truth to the rumours that Gerrard was in the area to look at a potential transfer target.
And, Mexer could be a quality addition for Rangers to make in the summer as the 30-year-old could certainly help to improve the Light Blues at the back.
The Mozambique international is a tall figure (standing at 6’2″) and is incredibly strong and solid in the air.
Rangers could well be in the market for a new defender or two this summer as well, with the likes of Gareth McAuley unlikely to be offered a new contract whilst Joe Worrall could end up going back to Nottingham Forest at the conclusion of his loan deal.
Interestingly, Mexer has previously played for Pedro Caixinha, albeit briefly, during their time at Nacional in Portugal together back in 2012.
Rangers fans, do you think Mexer would be a good addition at Ibrox? Is a new centre-back needed at the club? Join in with the discussion below by sharing your thoughts with us.
