Rangers allegedly met with an experienced Premier League player in the January transfer window when he was a free agent.
According to a report by Fotboll Direkt, Alexander Kacaniklic is understood to have travelled to Scotland to meet the club ahead of a potential move to Ibrox.
However, the former Fulham attacker returned to his homeland and joined Hammarby after a difficult spell in France with Nantes.
Steven Gerrard knows the 27-year-old rather well, as the pair were together at Liverpool, although the Sweden international had spent the majority of his time at Anfield in the academy ranks.
It is understood that Kacaniklic decided to return to his homeland to make up for lost time and try and make a return to the National Team.
Rangers made a number of signings in the winter transfer window and it appears Kacaniklic could have joined the likes of Jermain Defoe, Glen Kamara, Steven Davis all arriving in January.
There is no doubt that the Sweden international could have been an excellent addition at Ibrox and could have brought some extra creativity to the Light Blues.
However, with the likes of Ryan Kent and Daniel Candeias all playing well in Gerrard’s side recently, it may have been difficult for Kacaniklic to achieve is international ambitions.
