Rangers fans in the Transfer Tavern are delighted with the club’s early business in the transfer window as they look to challenge for the title next season.
A summer overhaul was anticipated when Steven Gerrard was announced as the new Rangers manager, but none of our regulars were expecting to see this many new faces at Ibrox. The Gers had already signed four new players before completing a £2m deal for Croatian defender, Nikola Katic. A goalkeeper could be next on Gerrard’s shortlist.
Reports in May suggested that the club were willing to listen to offers for goalkeeper, Wes Foderingham. The 27-year-old was a key player last season, making 37 appearances. Now, it seems the club are willing to cash in on the stopper.
To replace him, Gerrard would be wise to raid former club Liverpool for Welsh ‘keeper – Danny Ward. Valued at £2.25m by Transfermarkt, the Welshman has failed to displace Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet for the number one jersey at Anfield. If Liverpool sign another ‘keeper, he will be pushed even further down the pecking order. He failed to make a single appearance in the Premier League but impressed last season when on loan at Huddersfield – he helped the Terriers earn promotion.
Still only 24-years-old, Ward would be a fantastic addition to the Gers. He is desperate for the opportunity to prove himself, and the Scottish Premiership could be the perfect home.
