Rangers players have been drooling about Ryan Kent’s ability behind the scenes, according to their former defender Alan Hutton.
The 22-year-old enjoyed a fruitful loan spell for the Glasgow club under Steven Gerrard last season, before agreeing to join permanently from Liverpool in the summer for a fee believed to be around £7m.
According to Hutton, Kent’s teammates have been very impressed with him behind the scenes during his time north of the border.
The ex-Scotland international says that while the Gers paid a lot of money for the former Liverpool man, he is being won over by his ability and believes that he will be a big player for them this season.
Speaking to Football Insider, Hutton said: “I’ve been very impressed by him since he joined – obviously knew he was on loan in the Championship, I don’t think he played too much, probably not as much as he’d want.
“When he made the [loan] move last season I was excited about it, especially hearing off the players that he was good. I made my own opinion after the first little while.
“It took him a little bit of time to get into the swing of it but when he got in I was just thinking, ‘wow, this is the type of player that you need’. Aggressive and everything that he did – attacked fullbacks, taking people on one-v-one, no fear.
“I think that’s the thing, at Ibrox, playing in front of 52,000, if you’re maybe a bit scared or don’t want to give the ball away, you’re never really going to excite the crowd and be able to move on.
“He’s taken to it like a duck like water – no fear, 100 per cent and the fans absolutely love him.”
There is no doubt that Kent will be a vital player for Rangers this season. He enjoyed a strong season on loan with them last campaign, netting six goals and creating nine assists and will look to improve on that this term.
Having only played 41 minutes of football for the club since his return, they will be desperate to get him back from injury as soon as possible.
The other left wingers in the squad have struggled to make much of an impact, with Brandon Barker scoring once and creating no assists so far in the Scottish Premiership whilst Jordan Jones has no goals or assists to his name.
You have to feel that Kent will be able to offer much more than they can, given his performances last term.
