Ryan Kent has his heart set on a return to Rangers this summer, according to a report by Sky Sports.
It is claimed the Liverpool winger is keen to leave the Anfield outfit before the European transfer window closes on Monday and it seems he wants to return to Ibrox and reunite with Steven Gerrard.
However, it is also stated that the 22-year-old is keeping his options open for the time being, as there is believed to be interest from clubs in France and Belgium for his services.
It is no secret that Gerrard wants to bring Kent back to Ibrox this season as the manager has gone on record numerous times about his desire to have him back in Glasgow. He was recently quoted by The Daily Record about their continued efforts in trying to convince Liverpool to part with the winger.
Indeed, it is hardly a surprise that the Light Blues are keen to see him return, whilst it is not particularly shocking that the 22-year-old would like to make a swift return either as, perhaps, he played the best football of his career for the Bears.
Kent went on to make 43 appearances for Rangers across all competitions, netting six goals and providing a further nine assists (Transfermarkt). His performances were also recognised at the highest level of the game within Scotland as well at the end of the season as he was named the Scottish Young Player of the Year for the 2018/19 campaign.
However, the £7m transfer fee allegedly wanted by Liverpool is thought to be a potential stumbling block for the Scottish Premiership outfit and the winger’s desire to go north of the border might not be enough for them to get a deal over the line.
Rangers are believed to have been preparing an offer of an initial season-long loan deal with the option to buy him for £6m at the end of the season (Football Insider), although there are suggestions the Premier League outfit would not be happy with that agreement.
Admittedly, there would also be no guarantee that Kent would also have his place back in the Light Blues side immediately either. Gerrard has significantly bolstered his wing options over the summer with the additions of Greg Stewart, Sheyi Ojo, Jordan Jones and Jake Hastie, although it might be difficult to leave last season’s Scottish Young Player of the Year out of the side for too long if he were to return.
Things seem destined for Kent to make his way back to Ibrox, although it all depends on whether Rangers and Liverpool can come to an agreement over a deal that suits everybody involved.
Indeed, things may not all be the Light Blues’ way though as the rumoured interest from abroad could become a real threat to their chances over the next few days as one of the clubs allegedly keen may decide to make a concrete offer that the Scottish side are unable to match.
With just days to go before the European transfer window closes, developments regarding Kent and Rangers will certainly be interesting.
