Rangers fans in the Transfer Tavern are excited to see who will arrive at Ibrox now that Steven Gerrard has been appointed as their new manager.
The former Liverpool captain has wasted no time in revamping his squad as he looks to challenge Celtic for the Scottish Premiership title next year. Scott Arfield arrived from Burnley on a free transfer while Allan McGregor also penned a deal with the club after leaving Hull. The Gers also made Jamie Murphy’s loan switch from Brighton permanent.
Gerrard must continue to add to his squad if the club are to improve on their third-place finish next term. One man he could target is Manchester United youngster – Scott McTominay. Valued at £6.3m by Transfermarkt, the 21-year-old has emerged as one of United’s most promising youngsters and made 13 Premier League appearances last season. The midfielder recently pledged his allegiance to Scotland after a chat with Sir Alex Ferguson.
If United strengthen their squad in the summer window and are targeting midfielders such as Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Fred, it’s unlikely McTominay will have a prominent role at Old Trafford next season. To aid his development, a loan move may be the best option, and Gerrard can offer him first-team football in the SPL.
Jose Mourinho has a ton of respect for Gerrard after trying to sign him for various clubs during his playing career and may allow his prized asset to develop under his tutelage. McTominay would be a huge asset as Rangers look to knock Celtic off the top of the table.
