Rangers stand firm by ‘flatly’ rebuffing interest in 23-year-old ace – report

Rangers supporters have been in high spirits in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their side get back to winning ways in the Scottish Premiership with a 2-0 success over Motherwell at Ibrox on Wednesday night.

Graeme Murty’s men had suffered back-to-back defeats at the hands of St Johnstone and Kilmarnock prior to the visit of the Scottish League Cup runners-up, but produced a fine second half display to see off Stephen Robinson’s side on Wednesday. Goals from Danny Wilson and Alfredo Morales were enough to seal a 2-0 win for the Gers at Ibrox, setting them up perfectly for the much-anticipated Old Firm derby at Scottish Premiership leaders Celtic on Saturday.

Subsequently, there have been many upbeat Rangers fans in the Tavern this week, and they are likely to be intrigued by a recent report from Football Insider, which suggests that the Gers have stood firm and ‘flatly’ rebuffed an approach from Wigan Athletic for midfielder Josh Windass.

The 23-year-old made the move north of the border from Accrington Stanley back in 2016 and has since made huge strides with the Scottish giants, scoring seven goals and laying on ten assists in 50 appearances for the club.

Yet his form this term has been particularly impressive with six goals and five assists in just 23 games for Murty’s side, and recent reports suggest that League One club Wigan tried their hand with a bid for the Englishman, but it has since been ‘flatly’ rejected by Rangers.

But given Windass’ great form in recent times, the Gers could well face a fight keeping the 23-year-old ace beyond the forthcoming January window.

Landlord’s verdict: Josh Windass has gone from strength to strength at Rangers this term, with six goals and five assists to show for the first half of the campaign.

And the 23-year-old appears to be hot property as reports suggest that League One side Wigan Athletic have tried and subsequently failed with a bid for the Englishman, believed to be around £200,000.

Yet with other sides also thought to be interested in Windass, Graeme Murty’s men could face a battle to keep the midfielder, although they have certainly made their intentions clear by rejecting Wigan’s recent bid.
