Rangers boss Steven Gerrard was left fuming with Eros Grezda after learning the Albania international winger rejected opportunities to leave Ibrox this summer, according to a report by Football Insider.
It has been claimed the likes of French outfits Dijon and Brest were keen on the 24-year-old, however they failed to work out a deal because of costs and the fact that the player simply did not want to join them.
It had been stated that an agreement had been reached regarding a loan move, but Grezda was not keen and has instead stayed at Ibrox.
Grezda is clearly surplus to requirements at Rangers after a disappointing debut season in Glasgow and Gerrard has confirmed publicly that his career in Scotland with the Bears is over – with a spitting controversy likely to have put the final nail in the coffin.
Speaking to the Scottish Sun, he confirmed that he advised the Albanian to find a new challenge and was only offering him minutes with the youth side to ensure he remains fit and in an attractive position for potential suitors.
Having signed for a reported £2million last summer, things have gone far from well as many would have initially had hoped for the 24-year-old.
Grezda suffered with a number of injuries as he missed 20 games for the club whilst out on the sidelines (according to Transfermarkt), which as a result meant the Albania international would only go on to make 17 appearances across all competitions, chipping in with just two goals and one assist.
Let’s face it, Grezda’s career at Ibrox has been over for a while and it is hardly a surprise that Gerrard no longer wants him to be a part of his Rangers squad for any longer than he has to be.
The fact that the 24-year-old decided to reject a move away from the club and, potentially, restart his career to an extent is, perhaps, the most baffling thing to try and get over.
But, something that appears to be guaranteed, is that the Albania international will not be playing for Gerrard unless something ridiculous happens to the Bears.
