Rangers will meet Ayr United in the Scottish League Cup on Wednesday evening as they look to book their place in the semi-final of the competition.
The tournament will represent Steven Gerrard’s first opportunity of lifting silverware at the Light Blues and will be determined to make sure his players are ready for the challenge.
Wesley Foderingham is expected to start in between the sticks as he will replace Allan McGregor and will be keen for the opportunity to impress after having spent the majority of his time on the substitutes bench this season.
Another player who was not used to being on the bench last year was Lee Wallace, whilst Umar Sadiq has been working hard on his fitness and could be handed a start in place of Kyle Lafferty, who is cup-tied.
Eros Grezda and Jordan Rossiter are both unlikely to feature as they look to continue their recoveries from ankle knocks, whilst Gareth McAuley and Ryan Jack will both miss out with calf injuries.
Ayr could look to prove a tricky test for their Scottish Premiership opponents at Ibrox, as the Scottish Championship side are on a great run of form recently, as they sit top of the second-tier, with just one defeat in 12 games.
Lawrence Shankland will prove to be a threat as the striker has already found the back of the net on 15 occasions and Gerrard will be hoping the squad he starts with will be able to cope with it.
The likes of Foderingham, Sadiq and Wallace will be looking to prove themselves to the manager and reaching the semi-final could be a great way.
