Rangers team news: Gerrard without six for Maribor clash

Rangers will be preparing for their clash with NK Maribor on Thursday as they look to take the advantage in their Europa League third qualifying round.

The Light Blues will welcome the Slovenian outfit to Ibrox and Steven Gerrard has provided an update on Ryan Jack, after he had to leave the game against Aberdeen with an injury.

Speaking to the club’s official website, he said: “We told Ryan to stay at home for a few days after the knock he took at the weekend. He will be assessed further today by our medical team, and hopefully, we will have an update in the next 24-hours on how long he is going to be out.

“But he took a serious whack at the weekend and he needed a few days at home to rest as it has knocked the stuffing out of him.”

Gerrard has also revealed that there are no further concerns, with the same players still unavailable for the Light Blues.

“Other than that, it’s just what you know – Declan John, Lee Wallace, Jordan Rossiter and Graham Dorrans. There are no fresh ones from the weekend,” he added.

New signing Borna Barisic will not be able to feature for his new side as he featured against them in the previous round for NK Osijek.

The Verdict:

Rangers will be feeling confident that they can get a positive result on Thursday night as they look to progress to the next round of the Europa League.

The Light Blues will be hoping the draw against Aberdeen at the weekend will not have deflated them, as a goal was conceded in the dying moments of the game.

Rangers have a number of players available following their successful recruitment drive, so they will feel that they have a squad capable of coping with the absences.
