The summer transfer window is the perfect time for a club to make changes to their squad and Rangers will surely be one to make the most of it.
Steven Gerrard has been hugely active when it comes to the recruitment side of things in his short spell at Ibrox and the upcoming window is unlikely to prove different.
He has been cut-throat with his decisions to offload players in the past that he does not deem fit to wear the Light Blues jersey and it seems he is about to tell another man to pack his bags and leave the club at the end of the season.
What’s the News?
Lee Wallace is free to leave Rangers this summer, according to a report by Football Insider. They claim the left-back will not be offered a new deal, which will mean he is out of contract at the end of the current campaign.
The 31-year-old has hardly featured for Gerrard, having made just three appearances in their attempts to try and win the Scottish Premiership title this season.
Wallace’s time at Rangers appeared to be over a long time ago and the news that the club do not intend to offer him a new contract will hardly come as a surprise. If anything, the report just confirms what many had already known as the Ibrox faithful gave him a standing ovation for his contributions to the club in last weekend’s fixture against Aberdeen.
Gerrard made it pretty clear last summer with his recruitment drive that he was looking to change the Light Blues completely and brought in Borna Barisic to bolster the position further, with the likes of Jon Flanagan filling in as well.
Three appearances for the whole campaign, whilst being overlooked for the matchday squad for much of the season was a tell-tail sign that the 31-year-old no longer had a future at Ibrox despite having been a hugely influential figure for the Gers in years gone by.
Struggles with injury will not have helped his cause either as he missed much of last year and the beginning of this season’s campaign with fitness problems.
By freeing up his wages, it may allow Gerrard extra funds to try and find another left-back, or potentially improve another area of his squad this summer.
