Rangers supporters have been in high spirits in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their side start 2018 with a fine 2-0 success over second place Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership, a result which sees the Gers leapfrog their opponents in the table.
Graeme Murty’s men went into the New Year third in the division and 11 points adrift of leaders Celtic, who extended that lead to 14 with a narrow success over Partick Thistle on Tuesday night. However, their Old Firm rivals closed the gap back down to 11 with a third victory over Derek McInnes’ Dons in the space of two months, with goals either side of half time from Alfredo Morelos and James Tavernier securing the three points for Murty’s side, who subsequently moved above the Dons in the Scottish Premiership table.
Consequently, there have been many delighted Rangers fans in the Tavern this week, yet they may not be overly delighted by a recent report from Football Insider, which suggests that they are ‘unlikely’ to rival Celtic for Dundee defender Jack Hendry.
The 22-year-old made the move north of the border back in the summer and has certainly hit the ground running with appearances in all 23 of Dundee’s league games this term, of which he has started 22.
And the young Scottish centre-back is clearly doing something right as several sides have been keeping tabs on his services, notably Rangers and Celtic, yet recent reports suggest that the former are ‘unlikely’ to maintain their interest in Hendry, having already brought players through the door this month.
Thus, it doesn’t look like Hendry will be making the move to Ibrox this month.
Landlord’s verdict: Jack Hendry has seriously impressed at the heart of Dundee’s backline this season, having started all but one of their 23 Scottish Premiership matches, and helping them to tenth place in the division.
As such, the 22-year-old has been attracting much interest both north and south of the border, with Rangers, Celtic, and indeed some Premier League clubs reportedly having scouted the defender this season.
However, one side has reportedly pulled out of the race for the young Scot, namely Graeme Murty’s Rangers, having already brought in five new additions this month, the latest being Greg Docherty from Hamilton.
And they are now ‘unlikely’ to maintain their interest in the 22-year-old, in news which come as a surprise to some of our resident Gers fans.
