Rangers watch Mark Beevers as Gerrard continues search for defender

Steven Gerrard looks to be continuing his crusade in improving his Rangers squad this summer as they prepare for their Europa League clash with Osijek.

The Light Blues face the Croatians in the first leg of their second qualifier in the competition as they look to make inroads in the European tournament.

Gerrard has been busy making a number of additions to his squad this summer, with one eye on trying to compete in the Scottish Premiership, having made ten signings already.

However, it is understood that the new Ibrox chief is still in the market for a new centre-back, despite the arrivals of Nikola Katic and Connor Goldson already.

With a deal for Millwall’s Jake Cooper looking dead in the water, reports are now suggesting that Gerrard is looking at another possible enforcer as he looks to strengthen the position.

According to the Daily Express, the Light Blues sent a scout to Bolton Wanderers to watch Mark Beevers in action against Girona in a pre-season friendly.

The 28-year-old is thought to have impressed and would be considered a cheaper option to Cooper, as he has just one year left on his current deal with the Trotters.

The Verdict:

Beevers would be a solid addition to the Light Blues this summer if they were able to bring him to Ibrox.

The defender is hugely experienced, having made over 100 appearances for both Millwall and Sheffield Wednesday, and should fit into the team with relative ease.

He would be a considerably cheaper option for Rangers to pursue this summer as well, as Bolton could look to cash-in on him rather than lose him on a free transfer once his contract expires in 12 months time.
