Rangers fans in the Transfer Tavern have been in fine voice since Pedro Caixinha’s arrival as manager and even though this season has long been a write off in terms of challenging Celtic for the Premiership title, there is positivity heading towards 2017/18.
Indeed, the Gers were not genuinely expected to compete at the top end of the top tier this term given they won promotion from the Championship less than 12 months ago, so the plan appears to be to back their new boss and rebuild.
There have been reports that Caixinha will be given funds to increase the quality in his Ibrox squad and A Bola have, perhaps drawing on his Portuguese knowledge, identified winger Paulinho of Primeira Liga side Gil Vicente as a target on the back of his 14-goal haul this term.
Alas, Sport Witness have spoken one of his agents, Pedro Mendes (who used to play for the Glasgow outfit), who has dismissed talk of a transfer as “speculation”:
“I’m not going to feed speculation of course… but at the moment it was not even talked about! It’s just speculation,
“There’s nothing that links Paulinho to Rangers at the moment.”
Paulinho’s contract expires at the end of the season, so he would be a cost-effective option for Caixinha should he look to step up his interest.
Rangers’ season has been a success – agree?
