When looking back on 2018 as a whole, Rangers will have mixed memories about what the year entailed for them.
Graeme Murty had been overseeing first-team affairs and caught himself in some controversy with Kenny Miller and Lee Wallace after an alleged dressing-room bust-up following their defeat in the Scottish Cup semi-final.
He was replaced in the summer with the arrival of Steven Gerrard, who looks to have brought the good times back to Ibrox.
Under the inexperienced manager, the Light Blues are heading into the end of 2018 as a Scottish Premiership title challenger, as well as having a good chance of qualifying for the knockout stages of the Europa League.
And, two men have starred for Rangers in 2018 to help them be in the position that they are currently in. Should the duo continue to perform in a way that they have been, who knows what Gerrard’s team could achieve in 2019.
There may not be a single player at Rangers that is more important than Alfredo Morelos at the moment.
The Colombia international striker has been an excellent addition to the side and is arguably one of the only good things Pedro Caixinha managed to do during his ill-fated time in Scotland.
Morelos has hit 35 goals in his 71 matches across all competitions so far in his Rangers career and ‘El Bufalo’ has quickly become a favourite with the fans.
Despite his rather poor disciplinary record, there has not been a man more important to the Light Blues’ efforts than the 22-year-old and if he has a successful 2019, it could be a great year for those at Ibrox.
Allan McGregor made his return to Rangers in the summer transfer window after six-years away from the club and has quickly re-established himself as a key man.
The 36-year-old dislodged Wes Foderingham immediately and his performances for the Light Blues have been second to none.
The Scotland international has made a number of match-winning saves and is a big reason as to why Gerrard’s side currently find themselves in the position they are in within the league and Europa League.
With all the signings the Liverpool legend made in the summer, and there were many, McGregor may have been his best addition and will be key in the Bluenoses’ efforts in trying to finally bring some silverware back to Ibrox in 2019.
