Rangers will be desperate to improve after last weekend’s Old Firm defeat as they could still mount a title challenge in the near future.
The Bluenoses suffered their first loss of the campaign against bitter rivals Celtic last time out, as Steven Gerrard’s side just couldn’t force the issue at Parkhead. Indeed, the Scottish club will be desperate to bounce straight back after the international break and still have the whole season ahead of them.
It’s important that the Englishman can identify his best XI and that they can consistently produce good results as the title race is far from over.
So, in an ideal world where injuries aren’t a problem, here’s an idea of what Gerrard’s amazing XI should look like…
RANGERS’ AMAZING XI
We’ve gone with a 4-1-2-1-2 formation, as that is the formation that would benefit the players at Gerrard’s disposal massively, with a nice balance of defence and attack.
Allan McGregor has made a number of impressive saves since joining in the summer and he will continue to impact the game from in-between the sticks as the season progresses.
Free agent signing Gareth McAuley will play a huge part in the rest of the campaign and should be partnered with young defender Nikola Katic. Indeed, James Tavernier has come on leaps and bounds under Gerrard on the right-hand side, and Borna Barisic was a bright spark against Celtic on the opposite flank.
In midfield, Ryan Jack will operate in the holding role, while Lassana Coulibaly and Ovie Ejaria should be buzzing around to win the ball back. Meanwhile, Scott Arfield will be deployed in an attacking midfield role to help support the two strikers and move out wide if needed.
Lastly, summer signing Kyle Lafferty has already found his feet at Ibrox and will be keen to build on his tally as the season progresses, with the dangerous Alfredo Morelos being the iconic part of Gerrard’s ambitious side.
