Rangers fans in the Tavern will be fuming at the sight of Celtic lifting another Scottish Premier League trophy if they lose next Sunday and real investment is needed to end the Hoops’ dominance.
The Hoops can make the title win official next weekend when they host their rivals at Celtic Park in the mid-day fixture. So, with that in mind, Rangers need to start targeting higher profile players if they are to end the dominance of their arch-rivals. While the club have spent a fair amount of money in recent months, few would doubt the fact that there needs to be more.
Now, West Brom are not yet relegated from the Premier League, but safety is looking increasingly unlikely for the Baggies. So, perhaps, should they drop to the Championship, many of their squad could seek an exit from the Hawthorns. With that in mind, the Gers should be on high alert indeed.
Surely likely to attract a lot of interest is Scotland’s most expensive player – Oliver Burke, despite a difficult campaign after returning to these shores from Germany. Indeed, Burke joined West Brom last year from Bundesliga side RB Leipzig for £15m and has made 15 appearances scoring five goals in the process this season.
The 21-year-old needs to be playing in a better division than the Championship and Rangers would give him a platform to showcase his talents. We’ve seen the Light Blues tempt players such as Graham Dorrans and Jamie Murphy north of the border of late and the punters propping up our bar would love to see the club make an ambitious move for Burke.
Able to play all across the forward line, Burke would be a stellar addition to the Rangers squad and boost their chances of beating Celtic to the title next year. Burke (valued at £10.8m by Transfermarkt) wouldn’t come cheap, but he would be a fantastic investment if the club are serious about reaching their ambitions.
In fact, a player of his quality could even help bring the title back to Ibrox.
