Rangers fans here in the Transfer Tavern simply cannot wait for the new campaign in which Steven Gerrard will take charge at Ibrox after being confirmed as Graeme Murty’s successor.
The Gers were soundly beaten by their rivals which saw them lift the title at Celtic Park, a result that will live long in our resident Light Blues’ memories. They currently lie in third in the table, three points behind Aberdeen in second and 13 points behind the Hoops. Summer signings are vital if they are to deny their rivals a ninth successive title.
Steven Gerrard has obviously been appointed as the new manager of the club – his first venture in senior management. His arrival has prompted plenty of rumours of who the ex-England captain will look to recruit including former team-mates and current Liverpool players, especially in our bar.
One man he has a fantastic relationship with is Fernando Torres. The duo were a key part of Rafael Benitez’s Liverpool side and built a strong relationship on and off the field. The Spaniard recently announced he would leave current team Atletico Madrid at the end of the season. Available for free, Gerrard should look to reunite with his former friend.
Valued at £3.6m by Transfermarkt, Torres has netted three times in La Liga and two goals in the Europa League this season. Despite being 34-years-old, he could have plenty to give in the Scottish Premiership. A step down in quality could be just what he needs.
With offers likely to be tabled from China and the USA, Gerrard would need to use all his powers of persuasion to bring him to Glasgow.
Rangers fans, would you like to see Fernando Torres at Ibrox? Let us know!
