Steven Gerrard’s arrival at Rangers has given the Ibrox outfit hope that they can close the gap to Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership table.
As it stands, they are 13 points behind the Bhoys, although they do have a game in hand. Whilst they would like to be closer, they have beaten their Glasgow rivals already this campaign, and their performances in the Europa League have seen them reach the round of 16.
The former Liverpool man has made several astute signings, one of which is left-back Borna Barisic. The Croatia international was a relative unknown in 2018, having spent all of his career in his homeland, but that did not stop Rangers spending £2.2m on the defender.
His first campaign at Ibrox was a relatively quiet one – he made 22 appearances in all competitions, providing four assists in the process. It is this year, though, when he has really began to prove his worth to Gerrard. He has already featured on 39 occasions this time around, and it is his attacking threat that has caught the eye in particularly – he has contributed with 14 assists in all competitions.
Will Barisic be at Rangers next season?
His showings have not gone unnoticed south of the border, either. Jose Mourinho, the Tottenham manager, is believed to be an admirer of the 27-year-old, who is said to now be valued at £22m. Of course, his departure would be a bitter blow for Gerrard and Rangers, but that kind of sum would represent a more than healthy profit.
