Glasgow Rangers: Kris Boyd suggests Rangers should sell Alfredo Morelos - Rangers

Kris Boyd has suggested that selling Alfredo Morelos could be a good thing for Glasgow Rangers this summer.

The Colombia international was in stunning form before the campaign was recently ended, scoring 29 goals in all competitions for the Ibrox outfit. That has led to plenty of interest both from the Premier League and abroad, with clubs such as Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund said to be in pursuit.

WHO IS THE PLAYER?

Given his performances, you would have thought that losing him would be the last thing Steven Gerrard would want to do, but former Gers player Boyd believes it could play into the 54-time Scottish champions’ hands. He wrote for The Scottish Sun:

“They’ll need to sign some quality, of course they will. Chances are they could also lose Alfredo Morelos to the highest bidder. But his departure could be a good thing if it allows Gerrard to bring in two or three players he wants. It just has to be the right type.”

Recent reports linking the 23-year-old with a move away from Scotland say that the Gers could bring in a fee of €15m (£13.4m). That is nowhere near the €40m (£35.8m) the Gers were looking for before this pandemic, but it is still a substantial fee that could be put to good use.

Is Alfredo Morelos Rangers' best player?

Morelos will want to move on at some point – that is the state of play in Scottish football. As such, Ross Wilson and co must look to make as much as they can from his sale, and his stock is unlikely to rise much higher. It could be the perfect opportunity to raise some funds to given Gerrard a chance of winning a first trophy north of the border next term.
