With the Rangers fans in the Transfer Tavern yet to be convinced with life under Pedro Caixinha’s reign, there’s nothing quite like the sight of a youngster impressing.
Seeing an academy graduate handed a chance in the starting XI is a good remedy for any club going through a difficult time of things and the Portuguese has personally named two youngsters in his ranks who are particularly exciting.
While speaking to Rangers TV (with the quotes posted on the club’s official website) Caixinha revealed that the form of Ross McCrorie has opened the door for any young talent hoping to break into his first-team plans.
The 19-year-old defender was handed a baptism of fire during the Old Frim and, despite the loss at Ibrox, looked an assured presence in central defence. Indeed, his classy showing in the 1-4 away win over Hamilton impressed our local Light Blues even more.
However, McCrorie may not be the only youngster who could enter the first-team fold. After speaking about the talented teen, Caixinha named midfielder Jamie Barjonas (who has already made four appearances for the club) and Aidan Wilson as others in with a shout.
The Gers will play Morton in a behind-closed-doors first-team friendly soon and the pair will apparently be given a chance to shine.
“That’s what we are living in this moment. [Jamie] Barjonas is a player we already know and Aidan [Wilson] is another, so he is going to get 105 minutes against Morton because we will play three periods of 35 minutes on Saturday”, he said.
