We football fans all vent at our own teams’ players on occasion, digging them out for poor performances or wishing them to move on when things aren’t going too well – it happens a lot here in the Transfer Tavern – and Scottish singer Amy MacDonald has done just that in relation to Philippe Senderos.
The 29-year-old songstress is known to be a big Rangers follower and it seems the veteran defender has really irked her this season with some cumbersome performances on the fleeting occasions he’s been called on – he’s only made three Premiership outings this term.
Indeed, speaking to Swiss newspaper Coop Zeitung (via the Daily Record) ahead of gigs in the country, MacDonald was asked about Senderos and her response was great:
“He is a terrible footballer.
“Senderos is one of the worst players ever.
“In his first match, which was against Celtic, he got a yellow card and then a red card and was sent off the pitch.
“Since then, he has barely played. He is certainly not been a good signing for us.”
It was then pointed out to her that Senderos was once hailed as one of Switzerland’s most talented footballers, to which she replied: “He certainly didn’t develop well then!”
She certainly didn’t hold back and, naturally, her words have been read by a whole host of fans who have, in turn, taken to Twitter to have their say on her views.
While some agree with MacDonald, who is romantically involved with St Johnstone right-back Richard Foster, others are annoyed. Here are some of the best reactions…
@Record_Sport can’t really argue with that big Philippe has got some agent!

@Amy__Macdonald Would you like to explain your comments on Philippe Senderos? What do you mean by saying “he didn’t develop well”?
