Contact made as Rangers reportedly considered surprise manager swoop

A win over Hearts was seriously enjoyed by the Rangers fans here in the Transfer Tavern, who are now excited once more following the sacking of the hugely unpopular Pedro Caixinha late last week. Indeed, the fires of optimism have once again been lit.

While it’s unclear as to who will be replacing the ousted Portuguese, all sorts of debates are flying around our bar on that front, though claims from the Daily Mail have seriously split opinion today. According to the Mail, former Crystal Palace and Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has emerged as a surprise target at Ibrox.

There’s even thought to have been tentative contact between the two parties since Caixinha’s departure, with Pardew currently working on Sky Sports as a pundit after leaving Palace back in January.

As you can imagine, considering Pards’ reputation, that news has certainly divided opinion amongst our local Light Blues.

Landlord’s Verdict:

Pardew would certainly help bring more interest back into Scottish football, though not all of it would be good. A fiery character with a rather high opinion of himself, it’s hard to see him truly understanding Rangers as a club, which may not fit.
