It turned out to be a fairly disappointing weekend for the Rangers fans here in the Transfer Tavern after their Scottish Cup tie up at Fraserburgh was called off, depriving our resident Gers of the chance to see some of their new signings.
Graeme Murty has been conducting a major overhaul at Ibrox this month and the punters propping up our bar were eager to see the likes of Jason Cummings, Russell Martin and Jamie Murphy strutting their stuff in the famous light blue kit. Still, while that didn’t happen, the reshuffle up in Glasgow shows no signs of letting up.
With that in mind, reports from the Daily Record yesterday have barely surprised our local Rangers supporters. They claim Pedro Caixinha flop Bruno Alves is weighing up whether to take a pay cut or not and move to Serie A side Benevento this month, potentially drawing an end to a largely unhappy six months in Scotland
The Portuguese joined Rangers with a big reputation last summer, though has suffered for form and fitness in equal measure and is believed to have told the Italian outfit he will soon inform them of his decision. Thought to be one of Rangers’ highest earners, the punters propping up our bar would love to see him off the wage bill.
If those behind the scenes at Ibrox can shift Alves and his hefty weekly wage this month, while bringing in talented new signings, it really would have been a positive month for the club. Hopefully for them, the Euro 2016 winner fancies a move back to Italy ASAP.
